Seven commemorative objects have been placed along the Westerborkpad and in Apeldoorn, bringing personal and poignant stories from the Second World War to life. Each object tells the story of a Jewish family who lived in the Veluwe region during the war.
Six of these objects are located along the Westerborkpad, a 360-kilometer walking and reflection route from the Hollandsche Schouwburg in Amsterdam to the former Westerbork concentration camp. Along the way, walkers will pass sites commemorating the persecution of the Jews: from hiding places to labor camps and monuments.
The memorials are located in Elburg, Nunspeet, Harderwijk, Ermelo, Putten, and Nijkerk. The seventh memorial is located at the Het Apeldoornsche Bosch Memorial Center in Apeldoorn.
The interactive outdoor exhibits function as mini-exhibitions within the landscape. By turning a wheel, visitors can listen to the personal stories of families, told by eyewitnesses and relatives, via audio.
