The exhibition Anton de Kom – Writer, Fighter, Pioneer can be seen at the Netherlands Open Air Museum. Anton de Kom (1898–1945), born in Suriname, was an anti-colonial thinker, writer, poet, human rights activist, and resistance fighter.

His most famous work is the book We Slaves of Suriname from 1934, a powerful indictment against racism, exploitation, and colonial domination. De Kom was the first writer to address Suriname’s history from a non-Western perspective. He fought for a dignified existence, not only for his oppressed compatriots but for everyone suffering from exploitation and oppression.

In his work, De Kom exposes the injustices caused by the colonial system, particularly on a personal level.
